Painted Pictures

In 1989 and in the style of my favourite Still Life painters Giorgio Morandi, William Nicholson and Mathew Smith I wanted to create the cross over between a photograph and a painting. I developed a technique using transparent Artists Acrylic Gel on glass plates and double exposing them onto 10x8 sheet film on a large format camera. The final prints were then hand coloured.
Very soon after they had won awards I saw an advertising Campaign in Ireland copying the very same technique, crudely created by computer.

All photographed on 10x8 Plate Camera.
